On April 23–24, 2025, the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, hosted an international conference titled “Enhancing Cooperation Between Universities of Europe and Central Asia.” The event brought together university leaders, National Erasmus+ Offices, policymakers, and higher education experts from both regions.
Fostering Strategic Partnerships and Innovation
The main goal of the seminar was to promote long-term academic partnerships between European and Central Asian universities, while encouraging the implementation of innovative approaches and sustainability principles in higher education systems.
Key Themes and Discussions
Participants engaged in a series of panel sessions and discussions focused on the following key topics:
- digitalization and student-centered learning models;
- joint degree programs, micro-credentials, and blended mobility formats;
- implementation of the Bologna Process and international recognition frameworks;
- localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through higher education initiatives.
Active Participation of NEO Tajikistan
The National Erasmus+ Office in Tajikistan was represented by Mrs. Mokhbonu Nakhatzoda, Erasmus+ National Coordinator, and Mr. Akhror Jafarov, HEREs team member and higher education expert. The Tajik delegation actively contributed to the exchange of ideas, highlighting the importance of quality education and expanding academic partnerships in the region.
“Tajik universities are eager to deepen cooperation with European institutions, particularly in areas like joint academic programs, digital learning, and sustainability,” stated Mrs. Mokhbonu Nakhatzoda during the seminar.
Moving Forward: A Common Roadmap
As a result of the two-day conference, participants drafted a joint resolution, which will serve as a foundation for aligning future cooperation initiatives between higher education institutions in Europe and Central Asia. This document reflects a shared commitment to advancing academic mobility, quality standards, and the integration of sustainable development goals across both regions.
